some minor issues

Post by jlbsam »

Good morning fellow Shark fans: I have 3 issues that I need some help with. I apologize if these problems have bee discussed already.
#1 is the "triangle" at the front bottom of the drivers window. not sure what parts i need to fix it and what's involved. Maybe someone has done this before.
#2. the rubber pads that cover the speaker enclosure on the package tray. What's the best glue to use and a good procedure to get them to stick
#3, the driver side window goes down easily and barely moves at all going up and even pushing/pulling it up sometimes is not successful. Any tips or fixes for this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

For the window, I suggest taking off the door car and examining the whole mechanism. Old, dried out grease or worn sliding plastic parts could cause galling and slow the ascent. The motor could also have worn out brushes. I would clean/lube and check the drive motor by itself. Spraying some tuner cleaner in it wouldn't hurt either.

The triangular cover should be retained by a small screw; if it comes away like that it means the cover is broken or the screw is missing or both...

I've seen the triangular trims secured by a blob of silicon sealer. Not a perfect repair, but will get you out of trouble until you can find a replacement.

re the window; try lubing the side guides with GT85 first. Make sure that the weather strip isn't binding on the glass, too.

If this doesn't help then you need to get inside the door and

1) check the compensation spring is set correctly
2) check that the motor/gearbox is OK and that it is producing enough torque (how easy is it to stop the window from going down?)
3) check and if necessary reset the glass alignment
4) clean/replace the glass guides

cheers

For the rear speaker enclosures - many of us have upgraded to the newer "premium" style. Decent ones may cost $200 +/-, and if they're the wrong color they can be resprayed.

If you want to keep the original style for your car, this site does restorations:

There is a post somewhere, either on BC or bimmerforums using PU glue (Gorilla Glue) and small spring clips to hold the curled edge to the metal frame.
Have never tried it, but gotta do it soon.

#3 I just replaced me passenger window button - the window would go down ok but up was very patchy. New switch fixed that.

I would add that my driver's window is very slow compared to the passengers, So I'm thinking it might be a clean and lube. However, my driver's mirror is also slow so I'm wondering if its an electrical problem. Any suggestions welcome!
