Location of Front Window Breaker

Post by bimmerjoe »

Have been doing some searching on this but cant quite seem to find what I'm looking for. I cannot get the front windows to work. The rears both do, sunroof does, tested all of the switches and they work as well. I have read about the front window breaker switch but cant seem to find it. I have the rear window breaker on the kick panel under the steering wheel and that works fine. IS there a breaker for the front windows? If there is, is the sunroof on that breaker as well, and if that is the case then the breaker would not be bad because the sunroof does work. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. Thanks again for the help!

Cheers!

PS: sorry, I forgot to identify the year & model: 1982 633 CSI, 5 speed

All four windows are controlled by that same breaker. If the rear windows work and the front ones don't, your problem is in the wiring from the switches to the front window motors, or the motors themselves.

Horn, thanks for the heads up. I will start to get into the wiring of it soon. On another note, I have noticed a fairly heavy brown wire that is a ground, connected to the body under the steering wheel but is not connected to anything else. It looks like the same color and gauge as the brown wires coming out of the window switches. Not sure if it has anything to do with the windows or not but hopefully I will figure it out soon.

Thanks Again.

Trace it via the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual which may be helpful.

Have power to the switches. Have power to the motors. So it is looking as if neither one of the front motors is working. Just wondering how common it is for both front window motors to fail but both rears still work? Is there anything else I should be checking?

"Power to the motors" What about the ground system?

Will check them next. I did have an unconnected brown wire that was attached to the body underneath the steering wheel and cant find where it went. I do see that the wires that lead to the switches are brown(some of them) and about the same gauge. Will have to really get into the dash and under the carpet to see. Thanks again!
