Speaking of trunk tool kits and tools...

Post by hornhospital »

Anyone seen one of these before? I've never seen a 16-18 open end BMW/HEYCO wrench before. What model would it have come in? It has no place in the E24 tool kit.

Looks like it could be part number 71116751097 from a Z8 E52.

I have a 1990 325i Convertible and none of the 4 wrenches go that large. When I looked through my collection I also found a 16mm/18mm combination wrench. But, mine is marked Walter instead of Heyco. Still DIN 895, Germany and BMW on the opposite side.

No idea what it came out of.

I'll trade this "Rare" wrench for a red handled screwdriver.

I would (seriously) trade my Heyco-BMW open end 16/18 wrench shown above for one of the extended allen keys shown in Brucey's tool tray picture, #18. I pay shipping on my wrench, you (whomever) pays shipping on the allen wrench.

Ken, I think I have a couple of those, but don't want that 16 x 18 in return, no need for that [-X

I'll check over the weekend, if I remember to #-o

If I find one, you can have it for post

They were donated to me, so "pay it forward" as the saying goes =D>

That would be great! Just let me know about postage. That's ALMOST the last piece I need to complete the tool tray. I still need the Heyco 8-10mm ring spanner. Gladly pay for one.

And could the mods delete my extra posts above? I added the picture after the first post and it went wacko, posting several times without the picture, and a third with it.

Looked again yesterday, found one, and the condition is what I expected, less than stellar :-({|=

Photos below, again I will send this to you for just post, please send me the shipping 411, in a PM or email if you don't want it seen publically, here on the board [-X

That looks like it will clean up. I'll reblue the shank after stripping the rust.

Many thanks to BOTH of you, Ralph and Bobbo! Got both packages today (Saturday). =D>
I'm kinda slow, Ralph....when you said surprise incoming, I never even thought about it being the 8-10mm ring spanner from you! I've got the new foam to install on the lid so things will stay put. I have the rest of the pieces: the antenna wipes (seller made good on that transaction, and even REFUNDED my entire payment after sending the other 7 wipes!) window assist piece, towing eye (when did they add that to the toolbox?...never seen the pocket for one before in an E24) and blue towel that I'll put in tomorrow. Thanks to many of you, this box is full.

You're more than welcome Ken =D>

Tool kit looks pretty good, and I don't recall when they had tow hooks either :-k

Ya know, I'm still trying to figure out when/how I even came to acquire that extended hex tool, and it could very possibly have come from Ralph as well \:D/

Once again, glad to be of service and happy to see that you've completed this part of the project

If anyone has the Emergency window locking key (number 20) and a pair of BMW aerial wipes I would gladly discuss a price?

PM me your 411 and I'll mail you a couple wipes if you want Hirschmann-branded ones for free. BMW ones are pretty much unobtainium.

Next package to Ron will have several of the window tools included for UK distribution. Sorry but Ken is correct about the BMW antenna wipes. I've seen them sell for $50 each and I recently sold a complete red handle tool kit with an antenna wipe and blue cloth for $450.

Ralph

PS to Ken - fortunately the wrench didn't break when I dropped it.

Based on my dealing heavily in tools, the average large tray kit with red handled screw drivers in very clean condition is selling for $350. Based on that and Ralph's sale I would then put the value on the BMW antenna wipe package at $100 ??

All three of the tool trays I have are marked with the same part number. One has the towing eye pocket, two don't. I know there's no place to screw in the towing eye on my E24s, but I still am going to put one in the kits, just because there's a pocket for it.

the marked numbers don't always mean that much; if you look in the ETK I think you will find that there are three (?) different tool trays for E24s that vary with build date.

The post 6/87 'world bumpers' have a small cover over a threaded towing eye fitting, near the foglights. I'm not so familiar with the US-spec bumpers but it wouldn't surprise me if they had the same thing.

cheers
