I've just acquired a copy of James Taylor's book "Original BMW M-Series" and on reading through the E24 section came across the following:-
Does it make any sense to anyone? It is definitely NOT applicable to the UK cars.

Re: Switch query.
Well I never thought of it in such deadly terms, but yep, that switch exists on mine, and that's what it does.
Re: Switch query.
I thought he was referring to a separate "Stop" switch. That switch is for setting up the memory positions on the seat which he doesn't mention.
He also says, in that brief excerpt above, that the switches either side of the handbrake are for the electric windows.

Re: Switch query.
Mind you, the window switch description does not apply to mine. Mine are on the shifter console, not the handbrake console.

I think all the E24s have the window switches there.MrE wrote:Mind you, the window switch description does not apply to mine. Mine are on the shifter console, not the handbrake console.

Re: Switch query.
Yep, fair enough. Perhaps there is something else going on, maybe M-car specific that I'm not familiar with.
I thought however that all power window switches were located either on the shifter console, or on later cars on the side of the actual seats themselves. I don't think I've ever seen any on the handbrake console.

Re: Switch query.
I think that is part of Ron's point Ellis. He seems well informed (he was able to publish a book BTW) but a little lost!!
