spare tyre fuel canister.

Post by Ronnie Wilson »

Hi Everyone,
Noticed that someone is selling on ebay a fuel can that is stored in the middle of the spare wheel. Their describing it as an e24 fuel can. Did our car's have a fuel can as standard, or was this an accessory you could buy or is this described wrong.
Sorry, I'm not good with computers so cannot attach the link to ebay.Their selling it for over £300. Wow pricy.

The spare can was an option, never standard. They were available in 6 or 9 litre capacity.
That one currently on eBay has been there for ages now, not surprising really as its about twice as expensive as it ought to be.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Was the fuel can available for all model years. If so then I would like one for my 1986 e24.

I think it was just one of those options available throughout the years for many BMW models, rather than being E24-specific. I'd love to have one, just for show, but not for that money. And, I'd like the seat-mounted fire extinguisher, too, but again, very $$$ and tough to source. The weirdest optional accessory I've seen is the supplemental cabin heater, made by Webasto, IIRC, that was fired with gasoline!

Wow, thanks for the information. When looking through my cars handbook there didn't seem to be many accessories. In my handbook it shows a storage space for the warning triangle on the left side of to boot/trunk. But I don't have a storage space or the triangle.

I think some of those options varied by the country the car was sold in, too. I've seen the triangle holder in a Euro M535i, but not in an E24. Some E24's have a compartment in that left side trunk panel for the first aid kit. My car has neither, so I use this neat bag I found on eBay to hold the first aid kit, warning triangle and vest, jumper cables, gloves, Fix-A-Flat, etc. It has Velcro strips on the back and bottom, so it sticks to the carpet.

I got one of those after Dean posted the eBay link. Very nicely made, even though the Roundel is reversed. I bought one for my friend that I did the E30 engine swap for, too. Gave it to him for his birthday.

I also bought one, even though my m6 has an SLS located under the spare tire.

In doing my research, I read an article on why this jerry can was made.

It seams that there is a huge fine imposed, if you ran out of fuel on the Autobahn.

Best,

Best,
For the relatively small number of forumites in the London area, did you know there's a fine for running out of fuel in the Blackwall Tunnel?

Hi guys,
Happy new year from the UK.
Can you let me know the link to where you can obtain that storage bag, it looks great. My car has the storage space on the left for the first aid kit. That fuel can has got me hooked, didn't know anything about them until a few days ago. If anyone know where there is one for sale I would be very interested, couldn't justify £300 / £400 though.

Tool pouch:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141993080932

It's made in Bulgaria. Took a month+ for the first one to get here, and it was late as a birthday present. Second one, for myself, was here in three weeks. I image it would get to the UK a lot quicker.

Once again Bigcoupe.com has sent me on a facinating Google search, this time about the Blackwall Tunnel. The Interwebz is an amazing thing.
