BMW e24 recaro seats question

Post by johnpaulurizar »

Hello All,

Just purchased my e24 635CSI 1985 RHD Euro here in Sydney Australia and loving it. I have found some genuine e24 recaro seats for the car and would like to know if these seats are the same as the e21 version. Going to retrim in pacific blue. To me they look the same. Also I am trying to source the plastic trim panel which hides the seat rails on my Right hand side. Any thoughts ? P.S The complete rear black leather seats will be available if anyone is interested?

Kind regards

Hi John, welcome to the madness

Nice find on the early Recaro's

I have a set of E21 Recaro's in my early 6er, and the label on the seat mounting bracket (not the seat itself...) appears identical, with the exception of the model number, which makes me think that the seats could indeed be the same, just the mounting is different :-k

I did have to slot the mounting brackets, so that also makes sense

I would also guess that the plastic trim is E24 specific and not related to the seat itself :-"

Some pix attached, look quite similar to me \:D/

Hi Bob

Thank you for the reply. Your seats look great . Did you have them retrim or did you buy a kit?

Regards

Well, neither, actually #-o

I purchased these from a seller in the states, Aardvarc Racing, here's the linky [-o<

https://www.2002parts.com/

They score these seats from the old US version E21 320 iS, rebuilds and recovers them in whatever color/material you like =D>

We went through a few swatches of beige trying to match my interior, good luck with that [-X

But thanks, these seats have been awesome and I never ever thought twice about ditching the original "comfort" seats

Bobbo. Those seats really are amazing. Ever since I first saw pics of those I've had a Recaro fetish. I hope mine will turn out as nice when I get around to paying the $ to have them recovered. I have the foam from cj pony.

Thanks Dave, not sure if I can say that they are worth every penny, mainly because it took a LOT of pennies to purchase these seats :-({|=

But please also keep in mind that I had to buy the seats as well, I didn't have seats that just required recovering :-k

Curious, who is cj pony :-?

BTW, I finally did get that exhaust tip to Kos, after screwing up the first shipment and did not have his complete addy on the package #-o

I really wanted to make right and felt that I "owed" him another attempt, once again usually not looking to make much coin on selling parts, more interested in moving things I don't need and helping others =D>

Thanks again

Bobbo, we already discussed CJ Pony but I thought I would post this for others. CJ Pony is a US company that sells reproduction Ford Mustang and other brands of parts etc. Since Mustangs also had Recaros in them they sell a foam set that is very close to the e21 Recaro foam. I've seen online somewhere, can't remember where that some of the pieces do require a bit of trimming. Probably not a big deal for a upholstery shop.

They list a price of $189 right now but the price is always changing. I just kept going back till I saw it at $129 about a year ago. Then I bought two sets. Seems like good quality foam. Two big boxes taking up room in my basement . I haven't done much else about having the seats redone. I blew that budget on a second e24
