Re: Driver door Handel replacement
Hey AZ,
Oops this is for the outside handle.
Yes it is hard, until you have the trick explained.
There is a horizontal steel bar, about 5 inches long, 3/16 " thick by one inch high.
It runs L to R and there is a spring clip, attached to this bar, that needs to be un-clipped.
It needs a flat medium screw driver inserted into the clip, from the bottom and spread open, to release this clip from the bar.
Then you are in business.
It has been a few years, so I hope that this is close enough, to help you.
Best,

Ok still trying to replace inside door handle - can not get the door panel off.
Removed panel clips 3 screws across 2 in flip up compartment 1 near door lock. Is there a screw behind mirror switch. How do I remove mirror switch?? Inside door handle I can not remove.

Wow! Thank you for that: I have been removing the mirror switch in a way which now seems a bit stupid!JCS wrote:AZ85635

Re: Driver door Handel replacement
Having just had to replace the handle which my body shop took off but said it took them hours, I have one piece of advice. The instruction to rotate by 90 degree is ambigous and potentially impossible.
The lock heater slides over the lock barrel. Unless this is moved away from the door by about 10mm, you cannot rotate the lock at all.
Then the lock heater bracket is used to turn the barrel by 90 degrees by moving the bottom of the mounting plate to the FRONT of the car ( rule applies both sides). Note that the bracket is cut out so that it misses the handle hinge.
Now there is no need to remove the L shaped retainer ( which my garage did and managed to drop one of the balls and the spring. I found the ball but the spring had to be replaced from my 'spring collection' ( not a fashion term!). You do need to unclip the bottom of the actuating rod, which is tricky but doable. You only need to take out the retainer if you are replacing the barrel.
Instructions relate to a June 86 RHD Euro M635Csi. Yours may be different. BTW, I am not sure of the purpose of the two small balls and spring except to give a 'feel' to the key before it actuates the lock itself. There is a hole into which the balls and spring are fed, and then the little sleeve is rotated to retain them. Experts out there?
