Original Radio for 85 M635
Greetings all!
I'd like to find an original radio for my M635...it has a modern CD player and just doesn't look right....but I don't know exactly what OEM was. I have a couple Alpines out of e28's but I believe the M635 got something different....Becker perhaps? My build date is 11/84. Any help would be most appreciated.
TIA!

In the UK there was no "original" radio as the cars came to the dealers without one fitted.
The dealers fitted whatever the customer required.

Re: Original Radio for 85 M635
My '85 Euro 635 came with a Becker Mexico normally found in Mercedes. I recently replaced it with a Continental/VDO modern unit(CDD7418UB-OR) with CD/USB/Bluetooth support. This unit is designed to look period and I think it is pretty close. The sound quality is much improved.
The one catch I learned was that the Becker used a common ground circuit that had to modified for the new system to work. The original fade knob requires the common ground circuit so that was removed and replaced with a couple USB charge ports.
Here is a link to a page selling the continental unit:

Regards,
Tony

Same on mine - has a Sony CD player - on a classic car like this - they just look wrong.
I managed to pick up a Blaupunkt Melbourne SQR39 which was normally found on cars from around this time. Any of the Blaupunkts are a good bet - Melbournes, Toronto, Friedberg, New York, Bristol etc. I have to wire in it once the restoration is out of the way. eBay is a good place.

My 1989 Highline was originally fitted with a Pioneer Quartz KE3090
https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/pioneer_ke_3090.html
I have fitted a Clarion NZ 502 which has radio,Ipod Video, navigation, bluetooth and all mod cons
http://www.clarion.com/gb/en/products-p ... index.html
It has a retractable screen so is relatively unobtrusive when retracted.
I have kept the Pioneer so it could go back in if required.

I don't know if this will help, but my 1985 635CSI has an Alpine/BMW radio with cassette player. The installation has the fader separate from the radio controls which complicates the addition of a newer unit with internal fader control. Of course, I got rid of all of my old tapes just before the BMW came along.

If you still want the 85 radio, I have one, but it doesn’t
Have the code. I’ll post a pic when I take it.

Re: Original Radio for 85 M635
A spot of thread resurrection.
Having looked through various threads on here there seems to be a bewildering choice of appropriate stereo units that are age specific. Now I admit to knowing nothing about stereo's so all I want to know is what I need to look for in a stereo that makes it suitable for adaption to take MP3 or can all old skool stereo's be adapted?
I'm also interested to know what the code system for Blaupunkt stereo is? So for instance what does SQM39 mean as opposed to say SQR49?
