Interior Lights

Post by TomMan7531 »

Hi,

So sometimes when I shut the doors the lights go off, either straight away or after a few seconds, and other times then wont turn off.

When they are working you can hear a click sound around the glovebox which I'm guessing is caused when the doors press in the button next to the hinges. Seems to be random but has resulted in people knocking on my door to tell me when I forgot to check :)

Any ideas?

The clicking is from the relay mounted on the firewall. If you put a finger on it, while pressing/releasing the door jamb switch, you'll be able to tell which one it is. I'd pull it out and try some contact cleaner first, but replacements are available new and used. I installed one from an E30 on my car, and it slowly dims the lights, rather than just a quick turn-off.

Thanks for this, found the relay, part number 1 373 975 for anyone else with the issue.

So where would I find these dimming ones? Were they standard on the e30?

I think this is the one I used, p/n 61311373974, and I found it on eBay for ~$20. New, they're $100+ from BMW.

George Graves also makes his own version: http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=89063

Thanks, I did speak with the guy who makes them for the e28 and hes sold out for the year.

Anyone in the UK ideally or Europe who makes/has one I'd be interested to talk.

I may have an extra one, but I need to find it I just had some major surgery on my foot, and I don't have much mobility, but in the next few days if I can walk a bit, I'll look for it. I'd be happy to sell it for cost + shipping.
