How to chage miles (km) in odometer?

Nothing nefarious, but I bought the correct Euro km clucter for my car, and I'd like it to reflect the correct mileage. The car has 190,000 miles, but the cluster has 420,000 km. The miles convert to ~306,000km, and to me, that's too big a discrepancy. I also have new Garagistic odometer gears for the Euro cluster (even though the odo is working), and the cluster has yet to be installed. Anyone tried this before? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Roger, that's always a possibility, but I almost always like to avoid sending parts of my car away. I've got thhe old US cluster to learn on, so maybe this weekend I'll spread all the parts out on the dining room table and see if I can get it back together. My wide will enjoy that, too :D

Dean, I was suggesting a call only, I've found them helpful on a few occasions. As you know most people like to help if they can. In your situation and you great personality I'm sure you could get to the correct technician for some guidance.

IIRC there are YouTube video's on the subject, look for MB's as they use the VDO odometer. It's not rock science, follow the steps and take pictures to reassemble correctly.

What are u going to do with your old tach? My current one stops a 2K rpm.

You're welcome to my old tach - I'll let you know when I'm ready to send it. Never had any problems with it, so it should work fine for you.

Hi Dean,
I spoke to the folks at Bavarian Restoration about doing the same to my recently purchased KM speedometer. They said they can do it but it destroys the od gears...so a new set is required. They are in the process of designing a new face that is like my current KM version but with mph in the smaller secondary scale. I am also going to have them add a potentiometer with a long pig tail for adjusting the speedometer accuracy. I'm hoping to have a very functional and accurate KM speedometer in the end.

Hi Tony:

I had some time to play with mine this afternoon. It doesn't all make sense,though, what Bavarian says. No need to break any gears, as they can beb removed in a minute or two, but the remote calibration rheostat is a nice idea. I hate sending my parts away, so I'm still screwing with it.

Dean, Local speedo shop did mine back to 0000 as to me that will reflect post restoration mileage. None the less, one of those shops can do it for you and should be a minimum amount of $$. Mine charged me 0$ and calibrated it as well.

Hi Bert:

I did figure it out, and it’s all done. It was a bit scary rolling the first dial and not break anything, but it’s fairly simple once you get the trick. I recall doing this 40+ years ago on an old Smith’s XKE odo, and it was much easier. So, I’m happy it’s done, but now I need to get my ass out of the hospital and swap the gauges in the car. Anxious to install the recovered steering wheel, too.
