Squeaking Dash

Post by sansouci »

Guys,
I've got a squeak in the dash that seems to be in response to the car working over a less than smooth road. It has nothing to do with the A/C or heater as it occurs when they are off.
I've never removed the dash so mis-assembly isn't the culprit. And no, the dash is not cracked or coming apart.
Are there some original pads or other types of cushioning (like foam or such) that prevents rubbing of various components that need to be refreshed?

This may or may not be relevant to your particular problem Ken but after I rebuilt my interior post restoration I was plagued by squeaks and rubbing noises throughout. I put the ones coming from the seats / rear 1/4 panels down to the fresh leather dye but the dash was really baffling.
I tried various lubricating sprays but eventually ended up using a selection of these at many various parts of the dash and edging trim.

It certainly helped and being black ,where exposed ,they look OE .
Good luck

My car has a strip of foam across the top of the shifter console, where it interfaces with the bottom of the dash. Looks old, and OEM, but it could just as easily be something from a hardware store.

Thanks guys. Maybe closed cell neoprene (wet suit material) might be a solution.....

I've got my console out - I'll take a pic tonight.
