M6 radio mounting

Hello all -

My '87 M6 has the proper radio, though I haven't quite got it (or the computer) sorted out yet. The radio is just kind of laying in a hole in the dash. The dash doesn't appear to have been butchered for an aftermarket system, but I don't understand what is supposed to be holding this head unit in place. RealOEM is no help for this and I haven't found anything helpful on the internet (yet).

Typically I would expect there to be some kind of bracket in the back, but the only place on the unit for any kind of mount appears to be on the sides.

Anyone know what holds this thing in?

Thanks

You need one of these mounting brackets. There are various types depending on the head unit. It has bendable tabs on all 4 sides to hold it in your radio slot and the head unit fits into it.

You then need radio removal tools (check ebay) to remove the head unit from the mounting cage.

Thanks Ron!

That is the piece that I am missing. The radio is the factory KE-81, hopefully I can find one of these cages that works.

Best -
