Using E28 seats, is there a way to convert?

Post by BillW »

I looked under the seat covers of my tan interior 635, and saw that the seats are blue. Which is interesting because my previous six had bad black seats in the front and none in the back, and I ended up buying a set of four blue seats for that car, which I never got around to dying.

Well anyway, I have access to both Sport and Comfort Seats from E28s which do not flip forward, therefore my question: Is there a write-up on making them flip forward?

You need the cables and pivots that are mounted in the upper seat frame of the seats that fold forward. Easiest way to get it done is to use the upper frame from a seat that folds forward as the cables are connected to welded-in pivots.

E30 sport seats from 2-door cars have the cables and pivots also.

That is what I was hoping, thanks I can tear apart the seats in the car I have right now, and by coincidence, I have a pair of beat up E30 seats.

Next I have to decide if I want to switch to manual seats. So many options. Thank you.

While some of you are thinkin about this seat question....I'm trying to install a nice set of manual buckets from an e36 m3 in my '79 633, naturally the bolt pattern is different....anyone know of an adapter available to make this project go easier? I don't want to start trying to jerry-rig the seats to make them fit....that won't be pretty. Thanks

That was my other idea, e36 seats. Power controls are on the seat itself, so you just run 12V. I think that the brackets will require trial and error fabrication, but should come out great.
