Dash Wiring Unknowns

Post by gte619n » Sat Sep 01, 2018 6:36 pm

Fellas,

Just got the dash out preparing to send to Just Dashes. I had a couple of issues identifying some wiring and was hoping the experts can weigh in. The car previously had a BOOMING SYSTEM ](*,) in it so a number of things are hacked around a bit. The car is a 1985 M635CSi, so it's a euro import so I'm not sure if things were a little different than the how-tos I've read.

1. When removing the gauge cluster, I have the usual blue connector, but the orange connector was empty. Is that correct? I've not had any functional problems with the cluster, so I'm not sure if that's an issue.

2. There was a connector towards the glove box side that was curled up and stuffed up back into the dash. I'm not sure where this guy is supposed to go:

3. I believe this is the odometer light connector. Is that correct? It looks like the PO has added another wire to the connector which probably isn't good. How should this connector look?

4. I'm missing a couple of bulbs. Is there a better option out there for replacement?

5. I believe that the car has a connector in the glove box area for the power lock controller, but that's missing the control unit itself. Are these still available? How does the lock actuate without a switch inside. Does the trunk lock/unlock as well?

6. Generally, should these wires have harness tape on them? They're all naked and really offends my OCD sensibilities. I would like to add some cloth harness tape to the bundles but want to make sure that's okay.

Thank you for any insight!
