HVAC (old style) removal - any idea?
Anyone figured out how to remove the old style HVAC panel? Left side is obvious but the right not

I believe there are 2 screws recessed in the right side slider. One on top and bottom. You will need a tiny screwdriver

That’s correct. Pushing out from the bottom after removing radio seems to work the best.
Getting it back in is very difficult. You need to line up the top vent with the HVAC piping. Not easy.

+1. took me an entire Sunday afternoon to put the panel back with my new vent sliders. Not worth breaking 40 year old plastic sliders and clips

Oh Boy! Thanks guys! I guess I do not have a choice in the matter. Neither AC or heat can be turned on so I figure it has to be the switch

Rainer, once you get the panel removed, you will find a small micro switch, I think on the dial that changes from heat to A/C, that actually completes the grounding circuit to either blower
Amazingly, if this switch craps out, neither will work, depending on which direction the switch has died, or presumed in your case, perhaps both directions

Thanks Bobbo! For all I know the switch may not even be connected but it is the upper fan that blows. Good thing I got some extra micro switches

Rainer I just looked at one of the spare panels I have. There are two small screws on the right side of the panel. As Bobbo said, if the micro switch is fried, you are fondued. However that switch can be had at an electronics supply store for less than $5 I think I paid $3 for mine years ago. The specs were printed on the side of the housing.
