A/C Evaporator RHD

Air conditioning system in my 1986 Australian-delivered (RHD) stunner is losing gas :( . I thought it was via a leak in one of the pipes above the driver's footwell. However, it turns out its likely a leaking evaporator as diagnosed by the aircon specialist I took it to (who also does my Discovery 3).

It probably needs a new evaporator rather than repair the existing leaking unit; so before ordering the part, was wanting to check if there are different evaporators for RHD and LHD E24's? The website catalogue of the well-known German parts supplier that I use states 'LHD only' in its two listings of evaporators, although the Ebay available USA 'Four Seasons' brand information does not distinguish. Any help on this question or related advice is much appreciated.

Regards, Nathan

Nathan they appear to be two different part numbers. This is no guarantee that they are actually different however;

Baders,

Thanks, those parts do look identical. Seems the pipes for both L and RHD variants probably enter/exit the car on the RHS. Hopefully another member or two will chime in with a check on that.

See you and I are among a small handful on here in Western Australia. Have read your posts with interest, your LOCUTUS is quite a project.

Cheers, Nathan

Thanks Nathan. Yes, this has been quite a haul. Three years since I took the M30 out and S38 in. Most of that has been with the car sitting up on the hoist and waiting for attention.

As far as the evaporator, I would pull the old one to take a look first. At least you know what you are up for.

Not many E24s over here at all now. Let me know if you want to catch up one day !

Thanks Baders,

Will pull the evaporator out to gauge its condition, a job for the holidays after Xmas.

Be good to catch up and talk E24's. I'll let you know when I plan to take the car to Perth (I'm 550 km away on the south coast) for its A/C fix post evaporator check.

Can you pull my evaporator out while you're at it ? Hahahaha, one of the jobs on my list.I used to travel to Albany quite often when the daughter lived there but she has moved back to Perth.
