central locking

Post by rrrs »

Hi, is there someone that experienced similar central locking problem and could help the steps to troubleshoot the problem.

Symptoms:

If locking drivers door (with passenger door unlocked) all doors and trunk lock momentarily, but then pop right out to open
When locking the drivers door with passenger door already locked both drivers door and trunk lock fine, no popping out to open
If locking or unlocking from the passenger side it all works fine, both doors and trunk lock and unlock, no problems.

I guess it would be either one of the micro switches or passenger door actuator, but, if someone could suggest the correct troubleshooting procedure would really appreciate as it could potentially save lots of repair time.

Thanks, Robert

When posting put your car year and US or Euro so we can better help.

So I picked 1986 but you can zero into your year.

Look @ pages 5126-0 to 5126-6 should help to solve your problrm.

Thanks a lot, in the end was just misaligned driver door micro switch after the lock replacement.
Sorry for not posting the year/model, it is 85 635 US/manual

Glad you solved it. Would have helped if you mentioned you just replaced the lock.

Sorry to report, it is actually not really solved.
I thought it was slight misalignment on driver door locking switch after replacing the broken lock, but I was wrong; must have been just by chance when I was moving that switch a bit that it did lock few times.

Back to the symptoms, this time with full car info; it is 1985 US 635csi.

When operating lock from the driver door both driver door and trunk lock fine (assuming the passenger side is locked already).
If passenger side is unlocked, then the whole system tries to unlock.
When locking the driver door I can see the passenger side pin "twitch" as it tries to lock (and sometimes it does lock), but most of the time it does not go down.
If I am locking/unlocking from the passenger side it all works perfect.

Could I assume based on this that there is something wrong with the passenger door actuator (either too week or maybe getting stuck somewhere), so this is why it locks on that side fine with the key but not trough central locking?

Just wanted to check if this assumption should be correct before going ahead and ordering new actuator.

Yes, you assume correctly. looks like the pass side is the problem.

I wouldn't order a new one until I diagnosed that in fact it's the problem for sure.

So in the end it was a weak actuator in the passenger door; would try closing bur had no power to close, just some whining noise; opening was fine.

Since I had a driver door actuator and no passenger door in my parts bin I installed the driver side actuator instead.
Accept different part number and white (instead of red color) they are externally the same and fit exactly the same.

I think I tested all the functions from both, driver and passenger door and it all seems to work fine with driver side actuator replacing the one in passenger door.
Is there anything I am missing; is there some difference I did not spot/notice and I should get the correct passenger side actuator instead?

Way to go. The only difference I can think of is the dead bolt lock on the
drivers side. Not sure if it has anything to do with the actuator.
