How to refresh lettering on check panel?
I've had this Euro check panel for about a millennium and would like to freshen up the lettering and install it
Any ideas how to brighten up the white lettering, especially the TEST button
I also have higher wattage bulbs for this panel, the entire dash, actually
But I tried to remove a couple and they ain't coming out without a fight, already broke one bulb using needle-nose plyers
Worst case, I can just leave the lower wattage bulbs in place, but they are dimmer than our former commander in chief
TIA, as always
Edit: Hmm, can't seem to add the photo, not sure what the problem is

If you have a steady hand you could paint them with ultra fine paint brushed. I used to use them to paint miniatures. After a little practice you could touch them up with some model paint.

Hi Grnshrk,
I can probably help make you a decal for the 'TEST' area on the panel if you don't mind a little wait-time.
As for labels for the lights, it is possible to make some sort of decal and if you wanted this we can discuss it here or with PM.
If you also have a specific question please ask as I think most of the panel can be re-made using decals similar to my other designs.
Let me know,
Mo

The real time consuming approach is vinyl cutouts. You polish the button to remove the old paint with some 3000 grit wet/dry paper, then apply the vinyl. Use a brass brush to lightly score the exposed parts, and then use an enamel paint to re-coat. You can finish with a plastic friendly clear coat.
The stickers Mo makes are a much easier option, that is easy to re-do if they wear off. The process would still start with a good cleaning of the button, but I don't think you would need to polish the same way.

Re: How to refresh lettering on check panel?
Gonna try to attach the photo in a reply, as it isn't working in my original post
But for the record, really only the "TEST" button needs refinishing
Shit, still not working

I had to google the panel to see what it looks like. Picture is attached and it is possible to make the 'TEST' decal for you
Re: How to refresh lettering on check panel?
Hi Bobbo,
I can also post the picture you have sent me for reference -- it is the same part & does need new 'TEST' lettering to look good.

Re: How to refresh lettering on check panel?
Thanks so much Mo
No idea WTF is going on, but it won't let me post this photo
I like the idea of just reproducing a transfer for just the "TEST" button, as you don't have to touch the other lights at all
Hopefully you can sell a few more, thanks to this thread

I appreciate that and will post an update in the next few weeks. BTW images can be placed in a bracket and linked to URL to work -- see exampleGRNSHRK wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 12:03 am Thanks so much Mo

Yeah, uh, that didn't work. Just upload the images using the attachment link below your composed message.

You are right -- but the example I posted should have been for the HTML code only -- so no image would show as I did not enter a valid URLhornhospital wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 4:31 am Yeah, uh, that didn't work. Just upload the images using the attachment link below your composed message.
I agree it would make sense not to have broken links and directly attach to your post.

Re: How to refresh lettering on check panel?
From the pics, looks like Mo's transfers are the perfect solution for that button.
You can try removing the old lettering with alcohol and steady rubbing with a q-tip. If that doesn't work, you can experiment with a VERY DILUTED acetone solution (distilled water or alcohol work) and a q-tip.

Ken, surely you don't think that I don't know how to upload photos, do youJust upload the images using the attachment link below your composed message.
What happens is that a small yellow "warning triangle" of sorts pops up at the right hand end of the attachment "window" with an exclamation point (!) in it, very strange indeed
Gonna try it one more time
Nope

Re: How to refresh lettering on check panel?
I was actually addressing Mo, since the example he posted didn't work, or actually did just what it should since he didn't include a valid URL. I definitely know YOU know how to post pictures! LOL!
My suggestion is meant for _everyone_ wanting to post pictures here. If you post via a link to a picture sharing site/server, yes, it works great....that is until the sharing site shuts down or starts charging for access (i.e. Photobucket). There are already many valuable pictures in DIY threads that have gone missing because of this. If those pictures had been uploaded directly to Bigcoupe.com, they'd still be here. Please consider uploading directly to this website instead of linking to an external source.
And Bobbo, email me that picture that won't post. I want to try something.....

Re: How to refresh lettering on check panel?
Ken, my sincere apologies, I didn't realize who your comment was directed to
But I totally agree about using hosting sites such as Photobucket
Many photos on our site have since been removed
I don't have your E addy, as we have only communicated via PM
Here's my email address, or you can send me a PM with your E addy in it

Thanks for clarifying and understanding the example -- I do wish the image management was more straightforward.
I do wonder if there is a way that forums could host the image -- then let you use that URL and avoid broken links.
Probably a size thing......anyway now is a good time to wish you a Happy New Year
