Post a still pic of the door latch that isn't out of focus. On the door, not the body.
That way, we can see if that lil plastic cap is absent or not.
DO NOT ADJUST THE DOOR!!!!! Please send the pic first.
I'll explain when I can see the door latch.
Oh. My bad. I just saw the video. Sorry. You do have the plastic cap, but, it may need replacing?
Maybe someone can be of better assistance?
I've read that once we start fiddlin' with the door adjustment, it'll almost never be the same. Go figure?

In the video, I think I noticed the door not lining up with the body?
Does it appear that way to you? Or is it because it isn't closed all the way?
It may be that the latch doesn't rotate all the way, like you did it by hand?

well i did this, wow cleaning made a huge difference in the latch movements... however still didnt latch. i noticed my amount of seal sag at the bottom increased.i pushed it back and bingo..M?chteWei? wrote:Since you have it that far apart, I would take the latch out of the door, clean it with something like WD-40, lubricate it well, and work it manually to be sure it's latching as it should (2 clicks).
i need new door seals...

You might want to consider applying some white lithium grease to your latching mechanisms internal friction areas. WD40, although very useful, will dry leaving a sticky residue. It's a 'catch 22' product; it will clean and lubricate, but after a period of time you'll need to re-apply. This is why everyone seems to have some around the house. I use it for motorcycle hand-grips; first it slips, then it drys, then it grips. The lithium grease is available in a spray form with an extension tube for ease of the application, and it will keep on working. Toph

Crazy glue? Are you crazy? Just kidding around!!! If the door seals are physically torn yes, you will need to replace them eventually. If they are just in really bad shape and hanging where they shouldn't be, they can be re-glued. There is a couple of 3M products that will serve you well. They make a 'Weatherstrip Adhesive' in two colors, black (08008) and a putrid yellow color (08001) affectionately called "Gorilla Snot". It's like rubber cement for weatherstripping. A couple of beers and some properly placed adhesive and you should be good to go! Toph

well ive installed a new main seal and they latch but boy they are tough is that normal?
the doors almost "load" on the seals.
i noticed there is a seal on the door as well as the chassis are they both needed? or was something changed, seems odd to have seal on seal.

Re: Need help with door latch, will not latch (video inside)
lately my '87 has been difficult to close the passenger door. I really have to push it hard for the latch to catch. it always closes partially, but it really takes a strong push for it to latch closed. when I do get it closed, the door aligns perfectly with the body.
The plastic cap is missing.....where can I buy one??
do I need to take the door panel off to get to the latch in order to clean and lubricate it?
Any other suggestions are most welcome....
where to buy that plastic cap?
