Car Covers

Post by sansouci »

Hi,
I'm looking for a car cover for my 84 6'er. I've used a NOAH from Covercaft (by way of BAVAUTO) for my '93 E32 and it seemed OK for this past winter outdoors. I'm in NY/Long Island and we had a rough winter. But now that spring is here, I've got to get the shark out of our snug 1-car garage so I can get to my tool boxes for brake work (booster rebuild and new accumulator) among other tasks.
So I'm thinking that something that is a bit reflective will be best for the leather and dash.
Everyone that sells Covercraft seems to get the same price or is there a source for a better price. Recommendations as to which material and vendor are greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

I've used the Weathershield from Covercraft and been very happy with it. Used it on my e24 as well as my Triumph TR3.

Haven't used anything else so I can't comment on others.

Do you keep the car inside or outside? My storage will be outside in the winter (ouch!)

I buy covers from Walmart. Budge brand, I think. I don't care what brand you buy. If you leave the car outside, the cover WILL deteriorate well before the warranty expires. To warranty the cover out, you ship it to Budge and they replace. There is also a specifically rain resistant cover from Budge that carries a 7 year warranty. On Amazon, it's about $70 and will probably be the next cover I buy.

Not a new thread, I know...but one caution for anyone reading and considering car covers. Beware of anything that does not allow free passage of water vapor. I've used car covers religiously for 30+ years (for years now using Bavauto "Ultimate" for about $180). Once, long ago, I bought a "waterproof" cover. After a summer rain shower, water vapor formed under the cover in the humidity, then baked in the sun and permanently etched pale waterspots into my paint.

I use covers, when parking outside at the airport for several days, to keep the sun from fading paint and unduly heating the interior. I like something that will dry thoroughly and quickly, without trapping any moisture. I have never used one for a "garage", and don't experience winter snow, so have no experience to add there.

There is no cover really safe to put on a dirty car. The very action of putting the cover on or off will microscratch your paint just like rubbing surface with a dry cloth.
