air dam

Almost all the mechanical issues have been sorted out and now i'm close to taking the shark to the paint shop. after some research, it appears that early 633's had a valance in front rather than an air dam. mine doesn't have either, just some butt ugly fog lights hanging down below the bumper.

Where do I find an air dam that will work on my 1981 633? I looked on ebay many times, none found. will an air dam from a difference vintage 6 work? i need advice. Thanks

Again, if you go to meetings you might find someone who can help?
Or try any Pik-A-Parts?

If you're willing to spend $600-$1000, the BMW dealer can sell you a brand new one. There are several different styles still in production, including the later-years M6 part.

Since i paid only $560 for the whole car, i don't think a brand new one will work

Not to worry . . .

...the OEM one that would work on your '81 is NLA anyway :(

If you can find one, look for a US version 635, model years 85 thru 87 [-o<

The 88/89 vintage from the "world bumper" cars can be made to work, but you would have to do a search on the required mods, which I am certain you can find, here on the board

I don't know of any other OEM types that will work, the Euro types, for instance, are a no-go :-?

Good luck finidng one, like hens teeth #-o

I don't trust the parts catalogs that say NLA for the parts that are rarely ordered (like airdams). I've even had BMW tell me that the airdam on my car must be an aftermarket part, because the one they have in their system for an '85 6 series is completely different. They're mistaken, it's just that the parts catalogs aren't 100% accurate for stuff like this.

I bet if he popped into the dealership and spent some time with the parts guys looking through parts diagrams, he would find the right part and it would be available. But, he doesn't want to do that anyways so I guess it's a moot point.

Ralph raises hand up:

I have several hens teeth!!

With Fogs & Brackets!!

Sorry, but not cheap - but less than you paid for said car. Remember I'm in this business to make money.

Ralph

PS - Bobbo, you should know by now but my inventory is getting depleted.

As Ralph said, "not cheap", but I did purchase an air dam from him, with the brackets and the lights. will get it installed in next couple of days and then off to the paint shop

Nice meeting you Jim. You got the air dam I wanted to keep. Let me know how you get on with the install.

Ralph

BTW - I kinda like that red thing you drive around in every day.

Here's a quick look at the final result of the air dam that I got from Ralph. I plan on posting a more extensive review of the "restoration" of my "shark" once the interior is finished

I like it - although maybe the colour of your picture is not as it looks "in the flesh". I thought it could have been Triumph "Old English White"!

I am told the color is a rare one. not many came from the factory in this color

Yep, I've seen E3s, E9s & 2002s in that colour, but never an E24. I've looked at a colour chart, but that looks way darker than your pic - hence my interest!
