E24 Rear Window Louvers?

Post by Bavarian Banshee »

Has anybody ever made rear window louvers for the E24? I know the E21, E28, and E30 had them, so would any of theirs fit?
If not, is there somewhere I can have some custom-made?

You mean like this:

Why? If you're interested in UV protection for the rear deck and speakers, why not use window tint film?

For one very, very important reason. I think they're really cool.

I've never seen them for an E24, but maybe there's a source you can find thru a Google search. Or, you might have to sell the 6 and buy an M1 to get a BMW with rear louvers :D

Well I already checked Google, and didn't find anything.
And M1s are nice and all, but not very sexy in comparison. Maybe I'll just get an Isetta. :D

I don't have as many good shots of the back as the front. I've been meaning to take more.

I had the louvers on my 71 240Z. Sooo old school. Reflective film does the same thing without the rattles.

They made a shade kit for the coupes, I have one in the 89. I assume its an option but I've seen a lot of them out there and I would think it wouldn't be hard to retrofit to another car, they work great and are all on the inside of the window.

Me also on my 72 240Z. it lifted for cleaning, I liked it on the Z, do not know about the sixer though.

The installer did not put any silicone around the drilled holes and screws, and it rusted and bubbled the paint.

Best,
Jay

Got any pictures of your setup? I've heard of it before, but would like to see what it looks like on a car.

Thanks,

There are two pieces to the system. There is a roll-up shade built into the rear edge of the back deck, and then the hooks at the top of the headliner.

Image

I'd guess the rear deck is easy enough to swap, but the headliner, not so much.

Each to their own, but my experience on a car that I purchased years ago with louvres fitted was the same as Ken said , they rattle, and lift at speed, so I ditched them.

I had a set on a Broadspeed Bullit Capri back in '71. From what I remember it was a very tight fit in the rear window seal and didn't lift or rattle at all.
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

Best,
Mine had a thin strip that was lodged under the rubber window seal so that there were no screws holding it in place. It did lift for cleaning.
