Sunroof Cable ID Help

Post by TagoraSX »

Can anyone identify these sunroof cables from a 1979 633?

I have ordered new cables from BMW and W&N using the VIN but what arrived were not the same as the ones on the car.

The cables supplied by W&N are for a later car where the cables are all in the roof. If your car is pre. 9/79 the cables run from inside the L/H boot area, up inside the L/H rear screen pillar and forward to the motor. See below.

According to the VIN decoder the car was made in July 1979.

I've had a reply from W&N this morning.....

"The original manufacturer of the sunroof for the BMW E24 series is called "Happich" all years and all models.
Your sunroof is labelled GOLDE on the cable, it seems to be an aftermarket sunroof installed to the car after production."

Anyone with an early car have a GOLDE sunroof?

Is your sunroof motor in the boot behind the trim panel on the left hand side?

Further investigation suggests the entire system including the lid is from another car. They might be from another BMW as the 2002 and E9 had Golde systems.

Sorry to hear that Daniel .
Do as I suggested and ask on E9coupe.com I'm sure they will be able to point you in the right direction.
Good luck and I'll keep looking too.
