Booster re-installation

Post by sansouci »

All,
I am in the process of disassembling the brake system so that Jay can rebuild the booster.
But I see a PITA ahead. What is the best way to reinstall the upper left booster nut that is behind the brake pedal with little apparent room to get it started. Disassembly doesn't look problematic but the reverse looks like it could be trouble.

Not difficult Ken. Stuff rags behind the carpet so a dropped nut does not go behind the carpeting. Reseal the booster install with a little silicone where it meets the firewall.

EDIT - Have Jay send you a rebuilt unit and just aend back the core when you're done.

Reassembly was not so bad, but I did drop the nut behind the sound deadening.

Be sure to use a rag down there like Ralph recommends. If you have a second body, have them help you line up the linkage. I had to pop things back off and re-align when it met up wrong.

Thanks for the carpet trick. I'm sending jay my booster with a machined aluminum seal carrier (the OEM has a big plastic thing) that I got from "Max Lumens" should be bullet proof for a looooong time.

re-install 13 mm nut

Post by JCS »

the 13 mm nut has a combo washer molded together, place the nut into a 13 mm short socket with a swivel and lots of extensions,
place some tape around the socket, so the it hangs over and holds the nut/washer into the socket
