Euro Rear bumper removal and ext trim refurb

Post by 635csiSyd »

So I got my car back from a full respray to solve 10 or 15 or 20 years of neglect by the previous owner leaving it out in full sun ( the story always changed:)

So now I'm in the process of replacing or refurbing all the sunburnt external trims, Mtek Rear spoiler, bumper garnish, bumper rubbers, door handle gaskets, grills, headlights blinker lenses, tail lights, you name it its all been severely sun damaged which was a real shame and something I didn't pick up on until it was too late (long story) However we are on the up hill side now :) so I'll share some pics of what I'm working with and the finished results if anyone would like how too instructions I'm happy to help but its all fairly basic stuff

So this is the rear bumper garnish as it was you can see that the surface is very degraded and the colour has faded right out it sits between the body and the top of the rear bar of my 7/86 Euro style

and after some colour guidance from you good people this is the completed garnish after several rubs ,primes, and final coat is satin finish it may be a little shinier than original but its about $700.00 less expensive also :)

I just spent a few hours dismantling the rear bumper. removing the end pieces and the rubber strip I'll post so photos and how to do stuff if anyone wants it I had some issues with rusted bolts and studs in the end rubbers that spun that I solved happy to share solutions if wanted

PS> after stripping my rear bar apart I'm thinking I need a new(to me) centre section bare without mounts is fine as long as its straight and salvageable without rechroming and your happy to pack and send to Australia let me know what you have and how much you would like for it, Thanks

Did not mean anything bad with my earlier comment. I was surprised how shiny the new parts were when I received them. I thought by old parts were in very good condition until I saw new ones.
