Motorsport shadowline paint

Post by guido »

I'm planning to strip and refresh the black shadowline trim on the rear light frames and that in the front light grills.
It looks like a satin black finish rather than matt, or is there a correct paint code for this?

I think I'll end up getting these powder coated along with a few other items on the car.

The grill is plastic, and the brite trim is probably aluminum and (glued?) to the plastic grill.
The plastic grill will probably melt, during powder coating.
The rear taillight trims are metal,

It is not glued to the grill. The trim has tabs which, with difficulty and a pair of long nose pliers, can be turned through about 45 degrees and released from the grill. Be careful as the trims are very delicate and easily bent.

HTH.

Yes, the grill itself is plastic but the metal outer trim (either shadowline or chrome) is metal and is held in place with tabs that go through the plastic grill and are then twisted to hold it in place. It should in theory then just come away from the plastic grill and be good for powder coating, depending on how thick it is and what state it is in.
