Restoration products for rubber bumpers?

Post by sansouci »

My US e24 bumpers are showing their age as the UV make them look dull. What is the best product to make them young again?

I've used "Classic Trim Coat" products on several projects over the years with great results.. Upon request they will mix thicker/denser filler.
Many products available, SEM, Leatherique, Devcon, 3M etc…

I use a product called "Forever Black Bumper & Trim Reconditioner" it works really well at darkening the faded bits. It keeps well also, reapply it once a year maybe and it's good. I haven't noticed any ill effects on the rubber or plastic and I've used the product since I've owned the car (5yrs).

There was a small scratch on the front bumper of my E24, and I touched ut up using this:

I had it because I used it to completely repaint the black areas of the bumpers on my '87 Spider several years ago. This is a paint, though, not a treatment, so use requires a commitment to preparation and the result will be permanent.

+1 on the Aerospace 303. It works great on anything rubber or plastic, lasts a very long time, and doesn't leave a greasy finish.
