The top two look like they may clean up OK. Have you tired some wax - maybe something like Mothers California Gold Cleaner Wax? Pukar makes great repro decals, which I have on my car, but I haven't seen that emissions decal available anywhere,

Thanks guys! I have been to their site but never seen this decal. I will contact them to see if they can make it. If not, I will have to see if I can clean it up. I'll keep you posted!!

The specific problem with the emissions decal is that it's perforated to break apart if you try to remove it. To manufacture that would require an additional process after the printing, perhaps not easy to duplicate in a small print shop.

Update: I ordered it from Kos and should be getting it soon. When I get it, I'll take photos and post for you guys to see. He didn't have it listed on the site, but has it available.

Here are the new decals! Kos did an amazing job!! He even cut the emissions decal the same way the original was cut so that no one can tamper with it once it is on.

Koz is certainly a master of his craft, and he pays great attention to all the details. Very nice work on that emissions decal.

These are the decals I bought from Kos (didn't need an emissions decal, as my car has the "dirty" M30):

And a few of them in place:

I'll post some this week since I have the week off and will be doing more work in the engine bay. Car is a work in progress (like all the rest) and came back from paint a few weeks back. Slowly putting it back together with new pieces as they come in new from Munich.

Did you follow a guide for cleaning? How did you get the reservoir back to white? What about the rest, I'm just speechless and now I wanna do the same!

First step is always cleaning, so you can assess what you have. I like Simple Green, and a variety of brushes, to get everything clean, before deciding what needs replacement, paint, or polishing. It's piece by piece from there.

It looks like you removed the engine! How did you get the metal parts on the top of the engine so clean?

I did some disassembly, but nothing major. The air box and intake plumbing comes of with. A few bolts and clamps, as do the intake manifold braces. The cam cover has been powder coated, both the air cleaner was just painted. The intake manifold was just scrubbed with the Simple Green and various paint brushes. Really, it's just elbow grease. The painted stuff was cleaned/polished with Mothers California Gold Cleaner Wax (paste form), which does a nice job of removing grime as it shines, and the rubber parts are wiped down with Aerospace 303 protectant. There are some dangerous cleaning products out there, like those Purple ones that are strongly alkaline, but Simple Green is safe and non-toxic. Next project will removing all the fasteners (not all at once) to tumble polish them and then replace them with my Caswell plating lit.

That is excellent info. Can you explain a little more about your fastener project, I'm not sure I follow.

All the nuts, bolts, washers get thrown into a vibratory tumbler filled with abrasive particles and a bit of metal polish, like this:

http://t.harborfreight.com/5-lb-metal-v ... 67617.html

Then, they're replated with a kit like this:

http://www.caswellplating.com/cobalt-st ... -pint.html

The end result will not be the same as the original yellow cad plating, but cad is tough to find since its not environmentally-friendly . Yellow zinc and nickel are other options, but a friend used this cobalt kit, and I thought the results looked very nice.

If you want to see the ultimate E24 engine bay, this will impress you:

Ron's car is really exceptional, now I have some reference pix.
Mine has been in the family since new and I just don't remember when it went from shines new to dull. Now I'm sad. But determined!
