Question for the experts re:us wing mirror

Post by fbobberts »

Tried looking for this...I now have an extra passenger (right) side mirror that looks pretty good except for one thing...it is not attached at the bend hinge. There is a nut liked extension on the lower part that is attached to the side triangle. But I do not see what it screws into on the main mirror part. Now...I will say there is a center metallic piece the wires run through (up and into the mirror). This has a star like pattern.

Do I...remove the mirror glass, heat etc, per the video?
Then unhook the wires from the glass...
Now I can pull them through that hole and clear it out,
Do I then use some sort of star tool to turn in the metal insert and
Screw it in the motor portion?
Or is there an easier way? Thanks guys.

The pivot screw is on a spring, some you press it in and use a pry tool to turn it and you can reattach this hinge with the wires in place. Loctite holds in place. Result !
