Door lock has disappeared
Ok, when I bought my car the owner said whatever you do don't use the key barrel, use the remote. The key barrel had a habit of popping out. Anyway I forgot to tell my new mechanic who was fixing the steering. When I picked up the car the barrel was gone, leaving a big black hole in the drivers handle. Couldn't find the barrel anywhere. So without taking the door trim apart, can anyone tell me if its possible for the barrel to fall inside the door? I wish I didn't to ask

Re: Door lock has disappeared
Nope, it's not inside the door unless he put it there. No way the tumbler can go through the handle.

Re: Door lock has disappeared
Sorry Ken but that is how the key/tumbler section is removed from the handle. There should have been (probably missing) a horseshoe shaped clip to retain the tumbler in the handle. The clip may have slipped off allowing the tumbler assembly to turn in the handle. All it takes is about 80 degress of clockwise turn (similar to using the key to lock/unlock) to dislodge the tumbler from the handle if the horseshoe clip is not in place. The tumbler pushes into the door so your parts are likely to be in the door cavity. It may be hanging inside by the control rod that unlocks the door. You may be able to see it by peering thru the hole.hornhospital wrote:Nope, it's not inside the door unless he put it there. No way the tumbler can go through the handle.
