Morning folks,

I will soon be replacing the front windscreen in my 628. The old one got smashed, I'm just in the process of killing the rust bubbles on the aperture.

Does anywhere apart from BMW sell the screen rubber, for less than the ~£145 that they are asking?
Alternatively, I have the original screen rubber which I think will clean up alright, would this be okay to re-use or is that ill-advised?

I've always re-used the original rubber. Ensure all old sealant is removed. It will take you quite a while to remove it all as there are multiple cavities!!

If you are getting a screen specialist to do the job, make sure he uses the proper w/s sealant that remains flexible.

IMPORTANT Fit the rubber to the screen and THEN FIT the chrome trim strips BEFORE fitting to car.

I always run a sealant gun around between the body and the seal AND the glass and the seal.

I replaced my windscreen a few years ago. It's not an easy job and it's worth getting some decent windscreen tools. Sealey do a set with high tensile string and applicator. I used Arbomast Autograde (which remains flexible and does not dry) to seal the screen after it had been installed. It was injected between the seal and screen with a pneumatic sealant cartridge gun.
I personally would not consider using the original seal so would get a new one from BMW because you will not want to do the job again if it leaks.

AS I said in previous post, it is worth injecting it between the seal and the body as well.

I have probably replaced around 10 screens using cleaned-up old seals without any problems.
