Code for keys?

Hi all,

I ordered a new key for the M from the dealer, only to find that my locks have been changed at some point in the dim and distant past.

The dealer thinks there might be a code stamped on the back of the doorlock barrel.

Could anyone confirm the accuracy of this before I embark on one of the most tedious jobs on the six and pull the lock?

Thank you,

Rob

Unfortunately, the only option is to open the door and look for that code. Your ignition will also have one on the barrel part of the mechanism. If you take off the door panel, you might be able to use a phone or gooseneck inspection camera to get a good image. Hell, you might be able to use a gooseneck without taking the door panel off at all.

That's great: I just needed confirmation I wouldn't be pulling it apart only to find the intel was bad!

Many thanks,

Rob

That ^^^. My '84 633 has three different lock tumblers. Driver's door takes one key, ignition another, and trunk/passenger's door a third. ](*,)

Thanks chaps,

Good news: all of the locks have been changed - one key for everything.

Bad news: no number on glove box barrel that I can see:
