Hood Release

Post by [email protected] »

When I pull the hood release lever on my 1988 635 the hood does not pop-up. I have to insert a plastic tool between the hood and the cowling to lift the hood enough to get my fingers in the slot. Has anyone dealt with this?
Thanks, Douglas

I have the same issue, and have replaced both hood struts. The next thing I can think of is taking out the latching mechanism and cleaning/lubing thoroughly.

+2, cleaning and lubricating the latch mechanisms helped greatly on mine, which also required prying my fingers under the hood to get it to pop up enough to raise it [-X

I recently replaced the hood shocks as well, which while keeping the hood up in place once it's raised, they didn't appear to help the unlatching issue #-o

I find that the hood will generally raise if I push on and release one or both rear corners a few times. It sort of “rattles” it undone.

Same with the M: the right-hand latch does not fully release, despite cleaning and lubrication and adjustments, but a bit of jiggling does the trick! This is not a euphemism.

Yearly maintenance. Lube door hinges, bonnet hinges, door locks and catches, bonnet locks, boot lock, throttle cable and throttle body springs and stuff, and then lube the bearings on the ventilation fan.
