Trunk button stuck in- unable to open trunk

Post by ekimp »

Hi there,

I have a '82 Euro 635CSi (E12 chassis). My trunk is stuck closed- the button to pop it open is stuck in and will not pop back out. Any way of replacing this or dealing with it? Will need to get the car inspected at the DMV and I assume they will be checking my spare tire/etc.

Can you insert the key, apply some pressure left or right and pull
on the button. If it doesn't pull out, then try pushing down on trunk lid to relieve
pressure on the lock mechanism.

If still a not go, I would put down pressure on the lid while smartly
rapping the button in with like a wooden dowel and a light ball peen.
Yeah, four hands needed for that one!

Good luck.

Tried the first thing, no success. I can feel the mechanism getting looser but there's not pulling the button out without either bending or snapping a key. Is it possible to somehow dig the thing out through the license plate light holes?

Can you try spraying some silicone spray in the key slot and around the edge of the button.

Or drill a small hole thru the whether stripping in about 1.5 inches with a 3/32" min, drill bit.
Its the same size a the WD-40 red extension tube.
here is a 1st photo of the lock open (button not pushed in),
and 2nd with the button pushed in.

Insert the key and pull out at an angle of 45 degrees. Always works for me😉
