Door handle sticking open, not flicking back with spring.

Post by Mamod17 »

Hi, my left side door handle seems to be sticking open - it doesn't spring back naturally. Once I push it in the door will close properly.

Before I dismantle does anyone have a similar experience with a simple fix? Many thanks!

Either the spring broke, or I am guessing the retainers that hold the pressure on the spring ends broke off. You will see almost all of the casting is pot metal and if broken as I suspect you will have to replace tthe mechanism which isn't that difficult a job. I did mine many years ago and don;t remember if you have to pull the window. Anyone else that can add more?/

Have just had a problem with passenger electric window, which involved removal of all door cards.

While I was at this I thought I would replace the external plastic gasket around the door handle as this was badly scraped. Looked up on the Forum how to remove door handle and it looks such a pig of a job decided I would probably do more harm to the handle and mechanism than a bit of cosmetic damage to a plastic gasket.

If you Google 'door handle removal you will get several links to how to do this.

Good luck !!

I had the same thing with mine. I removed the door cards and lubricated all the moving parts with wd40 and that did the trick
