Door lock replacement

I have a 1988 BMW 635

The front drivers door lock broke, so I decided to replace it.

I removed the old lock and approached installing the new lock leaving assembly for inside the door. I have been unsuccessful.

Is there a way to install the lock unit completely assembled?

From what I think you are saying, although it was a very long time ago, my recollection of when I had a door lock assembly off the car and in pieces, the reassembly part was done with everything built back up.

Do you have any pics of what you're trying to do?
