E24 Rocker Panel Color. Help!
Just finished a beautiful respray on my Alpine White 1989 635csi. I’m almost certain the rocker panels are supposed to be black from the trim piece down. But I’m not certain. A Google search of images shows many examples that are body color that is adding to my confusion. Your expert advice is appreciated! I would like the car to be as original as possible.
Thanks in advance, John

Re: E24 Rocker Panel Color. Help!
We're in the process of repainting as well (plus rust remediation) and I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone have any specifics as to what type/style of paint was applied on the rocker panels and behind the rear wheels? It is some kind of textured rock chip resistant paint...

Re: E24 Rocker Panel Color. Help!
I just went through the same decision.
Keep the rocker panels same color as the car.
My car is a 89 635CSIA, built 11/88 and just finished the respray. I received progress photos from the shop and noticed the rockers were not painted black. I discussed this with the shop. It's their opinion the black rocker coating (undercoating texture) was not factory applied, it was easily removed using a power washer during the prep process.
Not 100% convinced, I researched hundreds of photos and came up with the conclusion the change occurred in production years 88 & 89 along with World Bumpers. Rocker panels are body colors in 88, 89.

Re: E24 Rocker Panel Color. Help!
My white '88 UK Highline is body colour below the lower trim strips and on the underside of the entire car. And that's 100% how it was supplied from new. I've owned the car from 1992.

My e24 euro '85 Metalic Delphin will also be repainted. As I read here, I need to paint the rocker panel black. Do you agree?
