or...does anyone know if a new one can be dyed the right color? I have found that the new one is still available for about $185, but the only remaining color is "Nutria"....

Are you looking for the whole rear deck??
Meaning without the pods, but the rear shelf in the rear window..

In my 84' its carpeted, not leather like in my 88...
My 88 is out, but its tan..

I can get a black rear deck, but don't know condition, I didn't pay attn..

I included a pic from my 88 rear deck, which I'm selling but again its tan.. is this what you are referring to??

mine is the early one, yes its just a pressboard panel with carpeting attached. I would prefer an early one without third brake light or sunshade. My speaker pods are fine, I just need the shelf panel itself. Thanks!

I remember a write up a while ago about fabricating one out of MDF. Think Scott Andrews from CA wrote it. Might be the better alternative - Reagan era German pressboard never held up well. One of my projects as well (once I get motor back in car after 4 years).

He had custom speaker system in back so there's a hole in the middle of the deck/carpet which housed more speakers..
