Hi Chris
As I'm sure your aware this part is NLA. However, I was chatting with a chap at Gaydon last year who had fitted an E30 M3 cable to his M635 with only some minor adjustments . This might be an easier part to find than an E24 one.
Phil

PS Just remembered I took a photo of it (how sad is that  )

Thanks for the heads up Phil, that looks like a good option to me! I guess it will wear a little quicker and give more resistance due to the radius in the bend but its better than trusting the frayed cable I have.. :-k

In light of no other answers I will soon update the thread with how to fit an E30 M3 throttle cable as in the picture - mine has frayed to beyond safe use.

I'm in the process of making a batch of M88 RHD throttle cables.

Will post on here when they are ready. Haven't worked out a price yet!
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

Short answer is yes it fits.

Slightly longer answer is that there is an additional plastic bracket between the first hook and the white rubber grommet you see in the above picture - once you have CAREFULLY (you do not want to damage the plastic sheathed actual throttle cable) cut that off it fits as in the picture with a bit of a twist.

I had found a local cable making company that makes throttle cables up for between £40 and £70 so I might take my old frayed (but not snapped) one down to them to remake and also pattern it.

If a solution to this is found then would be interested in obtaining a spare 'just in case'.

While mine seems in reasonable condition and is kept covered in ACF-50, at some point it will need swapping out.

Kept mine lubed with engine oil for years but it gave up eventually, and very suddenly; it was jammed solid.

So I tripped down to Dorking to this company I'd found only to be told the guy who ran the car throttle cable side of the business had retired and the motorcycle cable guy wasn't prepared to order in all the bits for car stuff. I was less crestfallen when the Lady said the motorcycle guy could easily just replace the inner cable in mine with all the bits that were still on it - 7 to 10 days and I'll post up what it's like.

I have fitted the alternative cable and it works perfectly. The old cable was repaired and I have it as a spare. It looks as good as new so it seems and throttle cable should be able to replace the cable and sheath with the fittings - although it will be so much easier if it hasn't actually snapped so the length can be accurate.

That's great you have found someone to actually repair it.

After my engine rebuild, we bought a new one from BMW but it turned out too short. They sent a replacement but same thing. So my mechanic logged a case with BMW as it turns out it's some kind of production error. They will investigate but who knows when they'll be able to produce the correct ones.

So we were forced to use the old one, which was luckily still ok.

Have to say that during the course of the restoration of my car, we've come across many parts that are NLA or on backorder for months or years and reproduced OEM parts which are simply not up to spec, which is sad.

It's becoming a bit of a challenge to keep these cars on the road, unless you have a lot of luck finding NOS parts or patience.
The M88/3 was all about power, no cats. At idle the raw fuel from the exhaust will make your eyes water like an old V-8 powered muscle car's exhaust did.
