Smiley ellipsoids for my LHD 1989

Post by SWE635 »

Still looking for a set of uncracked ellipsoids for my '89...

Either the whole fixture, or just the lenses.
Preferably both sides - but really it's just the right side that's cracked on my car (so that one is most important).

Thanks!

/A.

None here. However, RHD ones should work too. I believe the OEM smileys have an adjuster to switch for RHD or LHD. I know they do for e30's anyway.

Are you sure?
I've heard different opinions on this, and I can't really remember any adjuster switches on my current headlights.

This thread has a pic down in it, showing how the euro smileys are adjustable. I had some on my e30 and know they are adjustable, I'm just not 100% sure about the e24 smileys. If it has anything similar to what is shown in the thread, then they are adjustable.

I had many people tell me Euro smileys would be wrong for my US e30 and that they are not adjustable. They were certainly incorrect, and most of them had no actual experience with the headlights. Now that I think about it, I didn't even now there were smileys for e24's. I know there are Euro elipsoids, but not familiar with smileys... unless they are just e30 or e34 smileys.

It would seem that I need to go looking for switches on my current ones - just to make sure!

Thanks for helping out!

I have a complete R/H ellipsoid unit. You can adjust L/H/D to R/H/D by slackening the 3 screws shown below and turning the housing. See here:- http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showt ... RHD-to-LHD

Please check if it is the same as your unit.
