WTB windshield washer fluid level sensor '86 635 csi

Post by fbobberts »

It says Mera and 1367651 on the top of it. It looks like this but this is too long, the part is only 5 inches. But the pins to the far left are the correct connections. I'm in Chandler az.

That one is for the deeper tank on the Euro cars, but you can buy a new, non-OEM sensor for your
US tank here:

Hey Dean..thanks of course. You know more about these cars than I ever will. But- I don't believe that one would work. I believe that sensor is intended for the tanks that take a sensor in the side of the tank placed horizontally, down lower, with that float buoyantly facing up when the liquid level allows. When the liquid level falls the float drops down to it's horizontal position and triggers the light. This I think is the design of the 1987+ and M6 tanks.

I could convert my '86 tank to an aftermarket tank, or a newer part, I think, that uses this newer design. But that becomes a more expensive fix than if I just find one of these unobtanium sensors, because I may have to modify the harness. Now I could convert to a single opening tank with no sensor mount and just jumper this so the light is off on my computer...but that violates my sense of 'first do no harm' on a pretty original car. Half the fun of my car is everything works. The electric seats, air, sunroof, hidden opera lights, warning lights even the lights on the instrument panel. Wasn't easy, but they work.

I know enough German to actually fight my way through parts sites in Europe, and I have to say, this one is tougher to clear than I thought, because to your point the part they show on the diagram referencing real oem is clearly too long to fit in my tank without modification. It ranks right up there with my trunk partition, where realoem had the wrong part number. ](*,)

I will take this under consideration, but I'm not sure that part would seal the opening or act in concert with my harness correctly.

I'll bet you're right abouththat sensor being the side-mounted type. But, I'll also bet I know where you can get a good used one. Send a PM to "Alpinacsi" (Todd Howerton), who has a huge stock of parts for our cars. He sold me the sensor, cap, and filter for the tank in my car.

Dean, I believe I sent you the washer tank, if I'm correct I believe I kept the sender. Is that the one he's looking for? I'm out of town until the 19th will check upon my return. Roger

Hi Roger,

You sure did send me that tank, and thanks again. The sender should work in the OP's tank, so maybe you can work something out. My car should have the deep Euro tank, but even the shorter US one holds almost a gallon, so I'm fine with it.

Yep that's the one. Pm sent. I now have a long one it definitely will not fit in my tank. But it would turn the obc light off if it did, so that's a good thing. :-({|=

Ps boy that's a tidy car.
