It's worth noting, for anyone else who is thinking about this, that it is not possible to fit the upright oil filter canister to the E24 (E28 based ones) as there is not enough room in the engine bay. The top of the canister pushes up againt the plastic ABS relay cover. I guess it's not impossible if you really wanted to, but it would not be an easy project. If you did want to pursue it the B34 blocks need the miller plate, which pushes the filter further into the ABS unit, but for B35 blocks it's a straight bolt-on exchange as long as you move the ABS unit out of the way.

The easiest answer is the oil filter adapters I make. This changes the filter use from a canister enclose3d filter to a spin on filter and allows use of a spin on filter that fits a big block 460" Ford. I sell them for $150 shipped and if 6 guys are up for it, I will do them at $4130. If interest is shown, I will post another thread with pictures.

I have a few B35 filter housings, including one or two with oil cooler ports. Shoot me a PM if interested.

There are two B35 filter housings. The downward facing ones fitted to B35 engined E24s and the upwards facing ones fitted to M30 engined E34s. The B34 downward housing is different again. My point is that the upward facing oil filter housing from the E34s cannot be fitted to the E24s without some "modifications" to the ABS unit and if trying to fit to B34 block, an adaptor plate is needed.
