Yes, this are the wheels I am after.
I think they existed in 7x15 ET20 on E34 and A32 and in 8x16 ET23 on E38.
Would 8x16 ET23 fit well on '85 635csi?

I think there are other E38 wheels that are 8x16 ET23 as well, and they require a small spacer up front, as the tires will foul the strut tubes otherwise
This "could" be dependent on your choice of tire size, 225/50 would be optimal, and I don't think you could "stretch" 205/55's on 8" wide wheels, although I'm sure somebody out there has tried

The "stance"crowd has done that and worse. Try 185s on 8" wheels. Possibly the dumbest idea ever.
