Getrag 260 prop for M30 in 635

Post by wattsmonkey »

Hi,

These are - like so many E24 bits - now thin on the ground in the UK.

Only needed for spare gearbox, so no rush, but has anyone got one?

Many thanks,

Rob

Driveshaft. They call it a propshaft, and call the CV axles driveshafts. :-k

Have a couple of (tatty) 80s era BMW prop shafts in my garage. What makes one for a 260 special? Short?

Guess the difference is going to be in the front half of the prop...

Anyway, happy to measure up if you know any dimensions.

Thanks for responses, I was expecting more of a tumbleweed experience!

Also, I completely forgot about the prop/driveshaft confusion.

The difference is in the front half - the prop for a 260 is longer than the 265 'cos the gearbox is shorter. (although the rear portion is longer for medium case diff cars)

I have a spare auto prop, so just the front portion would do it if I get it balanced, but the whole thing would obviously be preferable.

I'll dig out the measurements.

Thank you again,

Rob

Well Rob ended up buying two decrepit propshafts out of my garage loft, and what's more he insisted on paying for them! Thanks Rob for helping clear some space!!
...and I must also thank Brian and the site also for helping me out when I embarked on classic bmw ownership all those years ago. A donation to the site heading your way as a token of years of appreciation. Long may bigcoupe continue... :D

Thank you so much, Drew, you're an absolute gent.

That is such a generous thing to make a donation and is testament to the lovely bunch of people on this site - I don't think I'm the only one who has been making more use of it through the pandemic.

Cheers,

Rob
