The £50,000 RHD M635 has arrived.

Post by Bayerische »

I wonder will they get their price. I know the Motor sport version commands a small premium over a regular car but it seems high. It will either sell very quickly or will sit there for months/years.

It seems like a nice car but I am not a fan of all the after market tat on it, M6 badges, rear brake light, stereo, pedal plates etc..., For that money it needs to be factory original.

There looks to be corrosion underneath the numberplate where the colour changes from black to silver.

It does look a bit strange alright. Corrosion or a bad respray?

Did all of the Motorsport cars have a leather covered battery box and toolkit? This one has leather with ///M stripes on both. Is that original? I have never seen that before.

There were of course 5 UK Nogaro Silver Motorsports. This one with an M6 badge is I suppose 483 - which was owned by David Connell who presumably spent all the money put into the car. It was later acquired, I believe, by Jeremy Woodcock. David Connell was a very determined person and caused some controversy with the Car Club at the end of the 1990's. I attach an image of this car taken at the Brooklands meeting September 2004. However the details shown on the card in its boot are very interesting. Are these statements true? Is the car still specced like this? With all this history, an outstanding asking price may be reasonable - although not for my budget. John Rogers

Hi John
I believe this to be either #470 or #474 as, according to my data, #483 was first registered 2nd June 1989 (not September as stated in the ad) plus if I have the correct registration number of #483 it is currently SORN and not had an MOT since 4th Dec 2008. The car being advertised is/was David Connell's car however.
Phil
PS I have the BMW Club magazine article (95 issue 3) that states he had the boot leather lined in the winter of 94/95 just to add a bit more controversy to the 'who did theirs first' debate :D

I remember trying to talk to him at Brooklands but if you didn't have a collar and tie on you were ignored! Not a very nice gentleman.

The details on the Autoglym card in the boot are incorrect as they manufactured 21 Motorsport editions. Would be interesting to put the car on a dyno to see what the power output really is.

My records show that 606 DRC #483 was first registered 30-8-89 and was the last of the Nagaro cars. I would assume that he took the DRC plate when he sold the car.

484/5/6 were the last 3 Motorsport cars and were all Misano Red. 480/2/3/4/5/6 were all manufactured in week 2 1989.

486 was stolen and I wonder if it ever turned up again!

Update:- Have just had #483 confirmed by the sellers.

Thanks for the correction Ron. My data is home grown from trolling the net so often mistakes creep in
I remember David telling me he had Shrick cams put in and had it chipped, back in the day, but the ad says nothing of this so may have been put back to standard.

Er.......Now I am confused. I remember where I got my info for #483. It is listed in the M635csi Registry

http://www.bmwmregistry.com/detail.php?id=852

The Reg number I think is showing as F848 VDF which according to DVLA has not been on the road since 2008? But the CC for this car is showing wrong at 3430cc according to the DVLA. M635's show as 3453cc. 635's show as 3430cc. This is how to differentiate between M635s and M badged 635's. Maybe the reg has been moved to a Silver 635; maybe the engine has been swapped; the DVLA have it wrong or the entry in the registry is bogus? David Connell's car has always (from early 90's until now) had a small distinctive mobile aerial at the top of the rear window and the M6 badges which this photo does not appear to be showing. By the look of the car it is parked next to, this photo is fairly recent (this millennium)? Thoughts anyone?

Phil, I am not sure that your image is of the car we are discussing. I cannot see the M6 badge and there is an aerial on rns wing.

Absolutely John. But this car is being shown as #483 in the M635 registry?
Ron has been told by the seller that the car in the advert is #483.
Like you, I do not believe that they are the same car, hence my confusion.

I attach an image of DRC and another of the leather finish interior. I remember that I was terribly impressed with the leather. Obviously he has the wrong data on numbers of Motorsport. However much of the research has been after that time.

But 0 to 100 in 11.1 and 180 top would be pretty handy. 349bhp - wow. I wonder whether any of this was ever true.

Here is a photo I took of David's car back in the day (1994 I think) with the small mobile aerial just poking out of the top rear screen and the M6 badges. Both these are visible in the advert. Note his original reg no. later changed to 606 DRC.

Phil, Can you read the info board on your original image? If this image was 1994 - then had all the upgrade work been done by then?

Hi John
Unfortunately I cannot read the board as it is just a scanned real photo (I don't think digital cameras were around at the time!) but it does look to be the same board as in your photo. I was told that some performance improvement work had been done to the engine by around 1996. As previously mentioned, I was told that Shrick cams had been fitted and it had been chipped. That's about as much as I can recall, I'm afraid.

PS. I understand there were write ups in June 2001 BMW Car and Oct. 2004 Total BMW magazines that mentions this car.
Also older (pre-Alpina wheels) photos of the car appear on a Russian? website discussing E24s at https://drive-my.com/social/panel/hashtag/E24.html

And the £50,000 RHD M635 has sold....

Post by Soperman »

... or at least it would appear to have done so. It now shows up in the dealers "sold" section.
I will admit to being more than a little surprised, and intrigued to understand how a UK M635CSi could have been retailed so quickly at anything like the advertised price.
