Late UK Black Highline I didn't buy in 2012

Post by Pod »

I "won" a RHD Black Highline with White interior on ebay in early November 2012. It was described as "beautiful" but needing a little work, having been brought home by its owner (a woman) who used to live in France. It was on French 'plates and reportedly had a French MOT (Control Technique) on it with a quantity of French service records. I was assured it was roadworthy and could be driven home. I drove down to Dorset with a mate to collect it. It was as rusty as a pear with holes in the bodywork I could fit my hand into. The driver's seat was wrecked. I wouldn't have driven it if you had paid me - as far as I was concerned it was a death trap, so I walked away and put the £200+ expenses for the day down to experience. I've broken much better cars for spares - it was that bad, fit only for scrap.

I had to insure it on the vin which was WBAEC820908188542 as it didn't have a UK registration.

Just treat it as if we were sitting in a pub, drinking a couple of pints and chatting about the "ones that got away" :-"

The seller has posted new pictures showing paperwork.

Imagine my surprise to see that the vin on the MOT certificates matches that which I posted here nearly three weeks ago

The sellers say
"as my wife has lost her job I need to free some cash up, so sorry to see her go (loads of money already spent on her)”

Is he keeping the car and letting the wife go? She will not be the first to have had loads of money spent on her. I hope he got a good ride!!!

Guess what I just found on ebay.......

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153287115482?ul_noapp=true

Now, I'm not positive its the same car and haven't asked what the VIN is, however, the odds against this one being anything else are, in my opinion, compelling.

Note what the guy says about the MOT. Upon reading the description, it would suggest that it has one - but it expired in May 2017, so the text in the ad must be from the listing two years ago!

IF this is the same car, then why is it still around? It should never have passed an MOT. It should have been scrapped years ago!

I've sent him a question about lack of MOTs
between 2008 & 2016 and no current one.

Zoom in on the paper work and you can barely read the VIN. It appears to be the same VIN.
1976 2002 (owned it since 1986)
88 M3
88 325is (soon to be track star)
87 M6
2009 R1200GSA

It is the same VIN. If you zoom in on the engine bay picture you can clearly see 8188542 as the VIN...
Funny, I was looking at this the other day and wondering why it was so cheap.
BMW 635CSiA (1988)
BMW i3 (2016)
Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 (2000)
Morris Minor 1000 (1968)
