***UK ONLY*** Looking to buy a 635 ***

Post by kish_635 »

Hi everyone,

As the title says, I'm looking to purchase a 635csi! - If you are looking to sell yours please drop a post below!

I have been looking on Ebay and Carandclassic for the last two months on a daily basis but haven't had much luck so I thought i'd try this forum

What I'm looking for in particular:
- Automatic transmission only!
- Decent service history
- Mileage (i am flexible on this but preferably low  )
- Decent bodywork (i.e. minimal rust / corrosion but doesn't have to be MINT)
- NO Red / Whites / Greens (Not a fan of those colours!)
- Csi or Highline spec is welcome.

Cheers!

Not being very picky then :P

You need to indicate your price range and what you consider to be an acceptable mileage. The days of finding reasonably-priced, but good E24s are now long gone

That's better!

You should be able to find something of lower mileage - there are plenty around with 120-150k in your price range. These engines are pretty bullet-proof, so a higher mileage would not necessarily be a problem though.

Shame you are set on avoiding certain colours. By so doing you are restricting your ability to find a good example.

You are probably in the best place to find something O:)

Yeah I agree that i'm probably restricting my chances in finding a good example - however, there is no point getting a colour that i don't like!

I'd like to buy one by the end of this year latest :-)

I've seen that on carandclassic, it's a nice looker but if i'm paying that kind of money i don't want a combination of black exterior and black interior!
I'm aware that i am being picky but i don't mind waiting a few months for the right one to come along :)
Also I know the one you are referring too... grey highline that sold at ACA auction... completely unmolested original factory condition with full service history.

I wish you luck with your search. Be aware that the checklist you have could take not months, but years to fill with the "perfect-for-you" car.

Thanks.

Apart from exterior colour I would still keep in mind other cars that don't fully meet that criteria. It was just a rough list of what i'm looking for in an e24 - nothing more!

A couple of years ago I sold one of our customers a dark blue 1982 or 1984 (it was a while ago!) 635csi automatic with low mileage, may have been 69k at that time and three owners (will be four now).
It had blue standard leather and was totally standard.
Last time we spoke he mentioned selling it on, although that was a while ago now too.

If it's of any interest to you, I could chase it up?

B reg as I recall. 84 then. Yes. Was totally mint then having been garaged for many years. Had soft brakes. Or was that the black one. Out of recollections now.
Current projects: E21 316 / E24 635i / E24 M635csi x2 / E28 M535i x2 / E30 325i Sport x3 / E32 740i / E34 525tdsT / E34 535i Sport x2 / E34 550i / E36 M3 x4

I'm guessing originality - and therefore resale value - are a prime consideration, otherwise swapping the interior is not a big undertaking! My burgundy six came with cloth comfort seats, this was not a good thing, so I bought leather sports babies and swapped them.

Well worth the effort though - have you got as far as a test drive in one yet?

No - definitely not! I did look at that one but did an MOT history check on it a while back.... shocking. Feel sorry for the eventual buyer!

There are plenty out there....................so you need to modify your "wish list" and reduce your expectations, or increase your budget substantially. If you haven't found one yet, I don't believe you ever will. Asking prices for good examples are continuing to rise - and I don't see that changing any time soon!

Just my 2c

How about this one. Mileage on the high side, but I would see if he'll let it go for £10k subject to a full inspection etc.

Spoke with the owner and is not interested in 10k right now as he has just put it on the market.

Spectacularly ill-fitting bonnet on that car.

Well spotted! That will probably be the rh bonnet hinge that has got a rusty pin. A good indicator that the bonnet has been left unopened for long periods of time. Also goes to show that the car has not been particularly well looked-after, even though the seller claims it has

MOT history check suggests there is an long-standing oil leak first spotted in 2011.
If considering this one, I would be also be looking very carefully at the corroded sill repairs that would have been carried out to get it through it's MOT in February.

Thank you for the replies Pod, Sharkfan and Soperman. :D

I'm not considering this one. I spoke with the owner earlier and the amount he wants is out of my budget! (£10k is my budget)

MOT expires in 34 days! Have asked seller if he will put fresh MOT on car.

He has replied that it is booked in for an MOT.
