M635CSI spares/repairs ebay #0185

Post by paulwchandlersford »

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-BMW-M635 ... 3641.l6368

Here is number #0185 - C191LOH, looks to be a huge project at best of not a spares only vehicle!!

Stood outside since approx 1997, interior mouldy, exterior panels look very poor - roof looks horrifically rusty, assumed a non-runner, it literally looks like it needs a full rebuild, although a great colour!!

Oh my......

Hope it san be saved.

By the look of the colored carpet, and green piping on the seats, looks like it may have been an "individual" build?

I agree, i love the color too...

Wow platanen green........that's an extremely rare colour. The interior is fantastic with green piping on the leather, I have not seen that before. That must have been a fantastic car when new. How do people let cars like that fall in to such disrepair!!

It looks like it is being sold by a breakers yard. They probably got given it as scrap.

It would be nice if someone could save it but it looks too far gone. Shame, fantastic spec, good service history prior to being laid up and modest miles. I wonder is the engine seized.

Made me sad to see it like that, not sure it would be recoverable in that state?

I also posted this up on the E24 facebook group, a few people have seen the car in the flesh and the consensus is that it may have had a new engine some years ago before being laid up, the vehicle is incredibly rusty in virtually all aspects of the body/structure. The bidding is already at £6850 - in my opinion that is getting strong money for a parts car - although if the engine turns out to be significantly newer than then vehicle and is salvageable then that's where the money is!

The car does look completely rotten.

Apart from the engine and getrag gearbox, I don't see much else there of any real value. Even if the engine and gearbox are good, £6850 is still strong money for both of those.

ETA It's up to £7050 now!!

I would not be surprised to see this car bid to £10-12k, before becoming "unavailable". Give it 18 months before it ends up being offered by a dealer as a "restored" example with a £40k price tag.

Mmmm, I wouldn't condemn it until I'd had a good look at it in the flesh .
The bodyshell on these cars is fairly straightforward to restore and new or second hand donar parts are freely available unlike say the E9.
If the mechanicals (primarily engine ) are sound then with a conceivable true value of circa £40 in a year or so then buying it for say ,£10 K and restoring it,is financially viable for an enthusiast or even a small bodyshop..
I've replaced a roof skin on a Manta and I'll wager that it is no more difficult to do that one ,the scuttle sections are easily fabricated or cut from a donar , every other bodypart is available new or used, and what isn't can be fabricated with a stout hammer and a willing heart ...
Once stripped to a bare shell and mounted on a rotisserie I would not be afraid to tackle that car , In fact , :-k I may just throw a bid in there ............
It's a gorgeous colour combo and I'm sure we'll see it returned back to it's former glory .

thats a joke, JOKE
Whats the point in listing this car on auction if its for sale at 12k elswhere...
Anyway at this condition its worth no more than parts itself which is 5-6k considering engine at least turns, which I doubt

Perhaps the high bidder has been following last weekends auction results.

Doesn't surprise me - apart from the fact it made it to the end of the auction. Let's see how it emerges from its restoration and the price tag attached :-k

You could be right.

Sold a second time for £11,550. Strong money for a total rebuild project car. The parts aren't worth half that assuming the engine isn't seized.

It made more money than the first auction. Will we see it up for auction a third time.

It's a brave man that would bid on that car sight unseen. It needs a serious amount of work.

WOW! Just taken down and it had reached £8,700 with 12 bids & 10 bidders :-k

I was thinking it would have exceeded £15k this time, bearing in mind a couple of other "ordinary" E24 restoration projects which have sold recently on ebay.
