Recaro Seats
The story: I bought them about 10-11 years ago to put in my car (1980). Something else was always more pressing on the car, including a 4 year motor rebuild, so they never got re-done. Seller told me that they were out of a e21, which was consistent with the e21 seat tracks on the seats when I got them.
They are not BMW Recaros - they are Recaros that were sold by seat dealers aftermarket as part of their "L-Modular System" where you could customize seat backs and bottoms. They were very popular, supposedly, with the Porsche and Ferrari crowd. You can find the original literature on line.
I currently have comfort seats in my car. I decided to keep it bone stock and just order the replacement covers for those instead, and have the horsehair pads rebuilt. I thought on keeping these for my next project, but could also do with making some space.
I also have the adapter kit and the proper e24 seat rails.
If I was to use them, I would break them down, clean and repaint the frames. Some of the padding will probably need to be replaced, some will probably still be OK. And obviously recover them. All the functions seem to work, albeit they are missing the two plastic lever covers on the side for the forward fold mechanism.
I am looking to get $600 + shipping for the seats, rails and adapters. That's what I have into them. They weight 50lbs each with the rails.
Apologies on the picture orientation.

Re: Recaro Seats
I'm in the market for some manual sport seats (or Recaros) and would possibly be interested in these, if it weren't for the shipping costs/hassles.
I've also been searching for a shop that specializes in restoring Recaros; there used to be a place in Tacoma, WA but unfortunately they went out of business. Is replacement foam padding still available for them?

Re: Recaro Seats
Larry, try Aardvarc Racing, Dave Varco, in fact he's down your way in SoCal somewhere
Restores Recaro seats, specifically those from the older E21 320 iS, great seats, ask me how I know
As far as replacement foam padding is concerned, I think Zinnocoupe knows of a Mustang restoration site that offers these
cjpony or something like that, try a Google search
And where have you been hiding anyway

Hope all's well up in Buffalo otherwise

Re: Recaro Seats
I am curious about this padding source... I have one seat that needs a piece on a drivers bolster.

Re: Recaro Seats
Well, once again I think it was Zinnocoupe that knew which year Mustang used seats like these

Based on questions on the seat frame thread, the measurements on these are 17 1/2 inches East to West, 12 1/4 inches North to South, and 21 1/2 Diagonal.

Re: Recaro Seats
OK sorry to not reply to this sooner. CJ pony makes foam replacement sets that I have read are a very close match to the e21 recaros. Somewhere on the webs there is a post by someone who replaces the foam with this product and the upholsterer has to cut a few little pieces to make them fit the e21/BMW recaro. I bought two sets of these and haven't done anything else with them yet.http://www.cjponyparts.com/tmi-seat-foa ... /p/SF19-V/
Re: Recaro Seats
Seats sold. I still have the adaptors and seat rails if there is any interest.
