Period perfect ?

Maybe I'm getting old but the mien ( stance ? meh .... ) looks absolutely period perfect on this and as tough as Phrik :wink: .
Low ET 14's and sensible 70 series .......Yeah ! 8)

Oddly attractive color. Certainly unique. Is it my imagination or does the rear end shot make it appear to be sagging on the driver's side?

Very nice car. Amazing condition. I've never seen an e24 with the large vent on top of the dash a la e28. No engine pics, a bit odd. Love that color.

I completely agree Don. Love that colour too.

The bigger the wheel on a chrome-bumpered E24 (S1 or S2), the more it looks like there's too much overhang/too short a wheelbase to my eyes, with the ride height appearing higher too. This one just sits right.

Alpina cowcatcher on the front looks ace too!

Lovely and comfortable as those 14" Alpina's are I recall a recent conversation about the current difficulties getting hold of decent 14" tyres now that the world and his dog have big wheels and low profile tyres.

I can remember when 70 profile tyres were regarded as low profile :lol:

That really is amazingly impressive given it's age. Everything looks immaculate. My old Moneybags Green '77 633 had a similar interior colour combination with swathes of green leather everywhere and those Series 1 door handles etc (including the vent/grille on top of the dash), but was definitely not in as good a condition as this one.

So what is the story with that top vent? Is that only very early non a/c cars had that? Interesting early detail. Whos got some insight into that?

I've read that E21s had a grill there designed as a speaker cutout, and that the early E24s were set up with a similar piece. In my car it had no holes or venting underneath for air or a speaker, it was just a plastic grill which sat flush into the overall dash - underneath was solid plastic. Before I learned it was intended as a cutout I had assumed it was a styling fix to reduce windscreen glare reflecting off the large expanse of shiny upper dashboard.

This is the only pic I can find of mine where its sort-of visible.

OK Thx MrE. Very interesting. I was wondering as the e24 doesn't really need a vent there like the e28. Looks like you're car has a similar green interior. Its an unusual styling detail for sure. Do you have more more pics of your car or a link to pics? I find the early cars quite interesting.

My old 78 model 633, Reseda Green (which we used to call Moneybags Green), got it in 92 and had it for around 16 years, and for much of that it was the daily driver. Marvellous car.

I don't seem to have many interior pics unfortunately, and least nothing that really shows off its particular quirks, but it was pretty basic late 70s sporty luxury - air-con, leather seats, power windows, no sunroof. An E12-based car so the interior had the the trigger interior door handles, it had grab rails on the ceiling as well as the hanging grab straps on the pillars, the chrome guards were probably not factory but were period correct, along with the chrome exterior mirror mounts. I ran TRX wheels for the first 7 or 8 years or so, but later replaced them with 16" Simmons.

The previous owner did fair bit of work on the car, rebuilt the engine and exhaust in '89 and added the 635 air dam, badging, rear spoiler, moved the aerial, later model steering wheel etc, all of which really enhanced its look. Even replaced the interior window switches with the later model illuminated ones.

It was a great car.
